Classes are held once a week for six week sessions. Starting with basic drawing techniques, Jim Koplar takes you with him on his own personal journey through years of trial and error and quickly guides the student to produce two dimensional renderings of the physical world.  Individual needs are addressed and each student is allowed the time needed to advance with confidence to ever increasing levels of ability.

Beginning Drawing introduces the novice to artistic terms and ways  of seeing with the right brains' spatail ability.  Graphite, a familiar medium is used to render the illusion of light and shade and three dimensions on a two dimensional surface.  Sketchbooks and materials are provided throughout the workshop.

Advanced Beginning Drawing continues to explore drawing from life subjects and introduces various dry mediums to the student.  Charcoal, gray scale chalk, Conte' crayon, and colored pastels are progressivly introduced as are differing drawing surfaces.

Beginning Pastel Painting explores the world of color in a dry medium with special focus on harmony, composition, light and shade.  High quality paper is employed so the student can focus on creating a lasting finished piece.

This is an example of how a graphite  sketch is approached.  On the left side of the portrait, the lines are barley discernable as the first exploratory lines "feel out" the form.  As the viewer moves to the right the image becomes more deliberate and in the extreme right it is approaching a finished statement.   This demo is typical of how a work is produced, and Jim's workshops always include "over the shoulder" observations and demonstrations of the artist at work and the thought process involved.  Look through the eyes of the artist together and see the world as never before.
